Symphony Futsal Tournament 2012 @ Subang Sports Planet

This year’s Futsal Tournament was held at the Subang Sports Planet on Saturday, 29 September 2012. It started at 9am and finished at 1.30pm. This time,  18 teams (only male) competed for the championship title. SBSB held the Trophy for three years in a row but everything was about to change as this year’s teams were stronger and more competitive.

The games began swiftly and went on smoothly with lots of goals and saves. Out of 56 matches, over 170 goals were scored that day and it was amazing to see such superb performance from every competing team.

After the group match, teams were divided into two categories, Winner’s Pool and Loser’s Pool. As expected, All Star FC from SBSB, the previous champion proceeded steadily into the finals. Although they were the favourite team to win the trophy but that was not to be as ferocious Pipit’s FC from Outbound tackled their way through a thunderous 4-3 win over SBSB snatching the championship title in a very lively playoff. It was a match not to be missed. However, the former champions were gracious in their defeat as they shook the hands of their opponents and congratulated them in true sportsmanship spirit.

The Winner’s Pool champion, Pipit’s FC brought back the trophy, medals and RM500. The runner-up, All Star FC got RM300 and medals whilst the second runner-up, Mike Babies FC from Starhub got medals and RM150.

The Loser’s Pool champion went to Team GB FC, a mixed team consisting of players from various departments. They even scored the fastest goal of the tournament, within two seconds! During the third game of the group stages, they suffered a loss after their star striker got injured (dislocated shoulder) and was unable to continue for the remainder of the tournament. But they kept the optimism and went on to win the title for their striker. They fought very hard in the second round and won the Loser’s Pool, where they got RM70 and medals. The cash prizes and medals were given out by both En. Hamid and Mike to the well-deserved winners.

The amount of squealing, cheering, screaming, clapping and laughing filled the futsal arena creating a fun and happy atmosphere. Co-workers, families and friends came out in throngs to liven things up and cheer on their favourite teams.
