On Monday 18 June from 10.30 am to 3.30pm, the Symphony team visited the Rumah Anak Yatim & Miskin Hulu Langat and Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Taman Megah to present cheques worth RM2,000 each together with foodstuff and clothes to the homes. The money was collected from Symphony’s recent Charity Car Wash initiative.
Rumah Anak Yatim &Miskin Hulu Langat
The journey to Hulu Langat took about forty minutes and upon arrival, we were cheerfully greeted by the administrative team and children. It was a very pleasant time spent talking to the staff and children during our two hour visit there. The children quickly dispersed after the photo session but we spent some time talking to the capable people who ran the facility. They shared their daily routine, challenges and joy running the home which is well organised. The facility caters for over a hundred primary and secondary school going children. Our monetary contribution will go to the purchase of groceries and other daily needs for the home.
What they really need most is to have committed individuals who can take time to teach subjects like Mathematics, Science and English as well simple skills like plumbing on Saturdays on a regular basis.
The visit ended with a short tour of the facility including the hostels to have a feel of the atmosphere, comfort and lifestyle of the children.
Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Taman Megah (PPKKCTM)
Our next destination was the PPKKCTM in Taman Megah. Mr. Baskin, the administrator of the home greeted us warmly when we arrived. They take care of children and adults (between 7 months to 55 years old) of all races who come from all over Malaysia. Over a hundred of them are physically challenged while the rest are normal children from broken homes or were abused. Apart from monetary contribution what the home needs most are for volunteers to come (anytime) and spend a few hours with the individuals. Time, love and affection mean more to them than any amount of money in the world.
Both the visits were a learning experience for all of us. It felt good to be able to spend some time with these amazing children. Hopefully, we can visit them again soon.
