After a short briefing, Siva R led the group up Gasing Hill taking route number two whilst two of his team members Taranjit and Siva M, trailed at the end to ensure no one was left behind or was injured during the walk. We scaled the hills courageously inhaling the fresh air while our eyes focused on the terrain we were taking synchronising our steps as we moved along moderately. Still, we didn’t miss the lush greenery, birds chirping on the tall trees and the little streams we came across on our wellness journey through this jungle.

We joined many early joggers and runners who knew the hill and its three routes like the backs of their hands. Of course they overtook us like champions and our quiet voices told us that someday we would be champions of this hill too. For now, our stride began to become heavy and our breathing too. By the time we got to the lookout tower twenty minutes on, we needed to take five if not more. Other colleagues, who were more fit, took this opportunity to chat with one another and even got to make new friends.

We finished our journey slightly over an hour and met at Lotus Restaurant down the road for our well-deserved teh tarik and roti canai. This outing brought together old and new Symphonians and created a special bonding that can only be beneficial to everyone, as our paths will surely cross sooner or later at Symphony House.

GCE Datuk Azman Yahya and Symphonians moblised their spades and shovels to recreate and refresh the designated green area at Symphony House. Together, they demonstrated commendable gardening skills; planting exotic plants such as travellers’ palms, heliconias and sepias. The end result was a cool tropical looking driveway!

This tree planting ceremony is part of Symphony’s environmental awareness programme. A range of activities has been lined up for 2012; all aimed at creating a greener and more sustainable future. We believe every little thing we do will make a difference to the society and environment we live in.

The friendly and efficient HR teams from Inbound, Outbound and Corporate HR consisted of Raj, Megan, Faizal, Farhana, Atira, Meow, Sabihah and Mohan Jr., Vimala (Inbound) Angela, Imran, Nur Halina,  Raymond, Ella, Seiko Sadawa, Nur Liyana, Bernard, Raymond, Karen Ng, Terry Leong (Outbound ), Praadhip, Jonathan, and Mohan Sr. (SCHR) were in full force attending to the applicants.

The successful event attracted 120,000 visitors with 120 local and international companies participating. Symphony collected approximately 1827 applications which we hope will translate into some very capable people joining our winning teams.

 The main sponsors for the event were Panasonic, Nestle, Genting, CIMB, British American Tobacco, RBC Dexia, AIG Global Services. The event was co-organised by AIC Exhibition Sdn Bhd and Job Street.  The supporting media was HR Asia, SME, Malaysia kini and Capital Asia and three official radio stations namely 98.8 FM, Red FM and Suria FM.

One Switch at a Time – 31 March, 2012

On Earth Hour Day itself, the following initiatives were carried out:

• Symphony signage lights were switched off from 7pm onwards and were only switched on again on Sunday evening.
• Only one out of six elevators was operating from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. The lifts at Symphony House are on energy- saving mode daily. When not in use, the lifts switch off automatically to conserve energy.
• Building perimeter lights were switched off from 8.30pm to 9.30pm

WWF Workplace Giving

In the third week of April, we will start with the 1^st WWF Workplace Giving 2012 quarterly road show. There will be an awareness talk on the various WWF conservation projects and how our RM10.00 (minimum) monthly contribution through salary deduction can go a long way to help protect the country’s natural environment, save our home and our natural heritage. Let’s give from our hearts and help preserve our planet Earth.
